In this episode, Sean and Jake pickup where they left off exploring more experiences from the first ASU FOLC Fest, featuring interviews from Kenzie Hurst Newton and Mike … More than 1,000 people in the ASU community attended the first Future of Learning Community Fest held at the Omni Hotel at ASU. The two-day event was a celebration of ASU's innovation in ensuring student success, and included presentations, panel discussions and demonstrations of the ways that the university has worked to change the model of higher education. Transfer students at ASU take thermodynamics in their first or second term. The course has a high failure rate hypothesized to contribute to “transfer shock,” resulting in low engineering self-efficacy and decreased persistence. The project team initiated PEER led, Student Instructed, STudy groups (PEERSIST) FOLC Fest is a two-day intellectual jam session (read higher ed conference) hosted by the Office of the University Provost that brings together folks in teaching, tech and student success at ASU.
