The best thing about Maho Beach over surf and sun is incredible sunset views (around 5:30 pm). Beside Driftwood Beach Bar, tourists love gathering to watch planes takeoff and land at close distance to Princess Juliana Airport landing strip (built by the U.S. military in 1947). The runway is a deafening 100 yards from the Caribbean water of Maho. Our ride to Maho Beach took no more than 30 minutes. Jets and planes fly in about every 10 to 15 minutes and its such a thrilling experience. Larger planes take off as well and the blast of the engines is so strong that sand blows everywhere.
